Common Rule Declarations

Many employers are still unaware that they are bound by Common Rule Declarations to awards even though they are not a named respondent. It is common for employers to be covered by multiple awards with quite disparate employment provisions. Managers have come to readily understand that awards imposed by the AIRC places obligations on their organisation. These obligations may be with respect to overtime, taking of leave, hours of work, and type of work, and potentially restrict the freedom (flexibility of employment arrangements) that was otherwise enjoyed, or required to meet the demands of your organisation.
